How we ranked these

By how well each van works as a camper and as a daily car. What we weighed:

  • Sleeping and cooking. Bed size, how fast it sets up, and whether there is a real kitchen.
  • Daily use. Seats kept, fuel economy and whether it fits a garage or a parking space.
  • Power and water. What runs off-grid and for how long.
  • Price. What the camper costs on top of the vehicle, or in total where the builder supplies the vehicle.

Common questions

What is the best small camper van in 2026?

DLM-Distribution's Mini-T leads this list at $66,800: a finished camper on a new Chrysler Pacifica AWD with a slide-out bed, a fridge, a sink and an inverter, rated 17/25 mpg and low enough for a home garage.

Can you still buy a Transit Connect or Metris camper van?

Not new. The Ford Transit Connect, Ram ProMaster City and Mercedes-Benz Metris are no longer sold new in the US, so new small campers are built on minivans such as the Toyota Sienna, Kia Carnival and Chrysler Pacifica.

How much does a minivan camper conversion cost?

From $3,500 for Horizon's Level One bed and storage to $16,000 for a Unicamp pop-top, plus the minivan. DLM's Mini-T is $66,800 with a new Pacifica included.

Do small camper vans have a toilet?

Not built in. The Mini-T carries a folding portable toilet, and Oasis offers a portable toilet as an add-on.
