Draft. This document was written for a demonstration site that collects no personal data and has no users. It has not been reviewed by a solicitor and must not be relied on for a live service.
What we set
By default: nothing. This site sets no cookies at all until you make a choice on the banner.
Strictly necessary
None. There is no login, no basket and no session to maintain, so there is nothing this site needs to remember in order to function.
Analytics, only with your consent
If you accept, Google Analytics sets its own cookies to distinguish repeat visits and measure which pages get read. These are not strictly necessary, which under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations is exactly why they cannot be set before you agree.
Your decision itself is kept in local storage as lt-consent, not in a cookie, and is never transmitted anywhere.
Changing your mind
Clear this site's data in your browser settings and the banner will appear again on your next visit. A live version of this site would carry a permanent "cookie settings" link in the footer instead; that is a known gap in this demonstration.
Why the Reject button looks the same as Accept
Because making refusal harder than acceptance is a dark pattern, and regulators across the UK and EU have been fining people for it. Both buttons are the same size, the same shape and equally easy to hit.
